The Mattmark dam The biggest earth dam in Europe, the Mattmark dam, is located at the far end of the Saas Valley. The reservoir, which is used for producing electricity, is a favourite destination and is of interest not only for the technical details but also because of its picturesque location at the far end of the Saas Valley.

The nightlife Because of its countless bars and discos, the Saas Valley is famous for its night-life well beyond the borders of the Valais.

The village of Saas-Almagell Saas-Almagell is the most southerly village in the Saas Valley and is situated at 1600 metres above sea-level. It is a family-friendly resort with an idyllic atmosphere which owes its degree of fame not least to three ski stars: Pirmin, Heidi and Silvan Zurbriggen. The chair-lift takes you to Furggstalden (1900 m) and on to Heidbodme (2400 m).

The Zurbriggens Zurbriggen - the name is inseparably associated with the sport of skiiing... and with Saas-Almagell. Pirmin, Heidi and Silvan Zurbriggen are all citizens of Saas-Almagell and members of the Mattmark Ski Club.

Visitors' tax, guest cards and guest honour In Switzerland you pay a visitors' tax, and you may wonder what happens to the money. The visitors' tax is used by the tourist associations for the improvement of the infrastructure (for example maintenance of hiking trails, children's playground, park benches, signpost, visitors' animation programmes. etc.) The Saas-Fee visitors' tax is included on your bill at the en of you stay.
